Sometimes it is like self destruction is the only comfort in this world. The only reliably thing to turn to when things get bad. People will let you down, the people you love and people who love you will let you down (it is not their fault, they are only human, it is selfish to expect them to always be there, they hold no greater ability to change us then we ourselves do).
But a blade against flesh will always make you bleed.
A needle in the vain will always space you out.
Binging on food will always distract you from those feeling of anxiety.
Not eating for a week will cause you to loose weight.
I am not saying that these responses are healthy, I am not advocating for them, or suggesting you participate in them.
I just want you to understand the reason why this behaviour is so prevalent in our society is because it works. It is a way to cope. A way to survive in a world that is not always perfect.
I just want you to understand that if you are participating in this sort of behaviours you should not feel ashamed or isolated, you should not feel like you are inferior or different from anyone else around you. This behaviour, these things you are doing, they completely normal.
These behaviours exist in our communities because they work. They work well. they are something we can turn to when everything fails.
But they are destructive. Hurting ourselves is effective, but very short lived. this behaviour can become addictive and obsessive. They will push us further away from our goals in life, they will push us away from our friends and families, they will destroy relationships, isolate us emotionally and physically.
So be safe.
